Cobber Kiddie Corps Clock Crown

OWATONNA, Minn. (2/03/24)---Youth is king for Concordia in 2004. The Cobber Kiddie Corps showed their potential in the spring opener as they blanked Crown 9-0 at the Owatonna Tennis Center.

Concordia only lost one game in doubles play and then didn't drop a set in singles competition, earning their first win of the 2024 season.

Head Coach Nate Young sent out a lineup that featured four freshmen in singles play and a fifth that joined in the doubles. All told the Cobbers didn't have a junior or senior in the lineup that bageled Crown.

The top two players for Concordia are the most "experienced" players for CC. Sophomores Logan Sandberg and Kai Pierce begin the year, the way they finished last season – as the team's No.1 and No.2 singles players and the team's No.1 doubles tandem.

Sandberg and Pierce, who both earned All-Conference honors in singles play last year, recorded an 8-0 win at No.1 doubles which set the tone for the match. Sandberg followed that with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No.1 singles. Pierce posted a 6-1, 6-3 victory at the No.2 spot.

The five first-year players who played the No.2 and No.3 doubles spots and the four other singles positions showed no signs of nerves as they lost only eight games in the six matches.

Isaac Maddock and Kai Kringlie rolled to an 8-1 win at No.2 doubles and Hunter Rice and Daniel Skrade blanked their opponents at No.3 dubs.

Maddock was also a double bagel winner in singles play at No.3 singles play. Kringlie matched Maddock's 6-0, 6-0 win with a blanking of his own at No.4 singles.

Rice was slotted into the No.5 singles spot and responded with a 6-1, 6-2 victory.

The closest match of the day came at No.6 singles where freshman Max Ness outbattled his opponent to claim a 6-2, 6-4 win.
