Super Sunday Nets First Season Success

FARGO, N.D. (2/12/23)---It was truly a Super Sunday for Concordia. THe Cobbers lost only four games in singles play on their way to a 9-0 route of Crown.

The victory is the first of the year for the Cobbers who are 1-1 on the season.

Concordia's first win of the year was propelled by their new-look lineup. CC had five first-year players earn singles win, three of those athletes recorded their first collegiate single victory.

Atticus Baker, Matthew Nemer and Tyson Aberle all came through with straight-set wins to pick up their first career singles win.  

Baker posted a 6-1, 6-0 win at No.4 singles, while Nemer grabbed the victory by a similar score line at No.5 singles. Aberle dropped a double bagel (6-0, 6-0) in his very first college singles match. Nemer and Aberle are both 2-sport athletes for Concordia, and are playing in their first season of tennis.

While, Baker, Nemer and Aberle were posting their first college wins, freshmen Logan Sandberg and Kai Pierce continued their early-season success at the top of the Cobber lineup.

Sandberg and Pierce also got double bagel wins at No.1 and No.2 singles. Sanderg (No.1) and Pierce (No.2) are both 3-0 on the season in singles competition.

The duo also recorded an 8-0 win at No.1 doubles to up their season record to 2-1.

Kipton Jenson, the lone returning player for the Cobbers, notched his first singles win of the season. He came through with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No.3 singles.

Jenson also paired with Nemer to win 8-2 at No.3 doubles. The tandem is now 2-1 for the year.

Baker and fellow freshman Brady Canon finished off the 9-0 victory. Baker and Canon claimed an 8-2 victory at No.2 doubles to record their first doubles win of the year.

UP NEXT: Concordia will open MIAC play next weekend when they host Bethel on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 1 p.m.
