A Tough-Luck Season Opener
FARGO, N.D. (02/12/22)---It was a tough-luck start to the season for the Cobbers as they lost 9-0 at home to Macalester in the season opener.
Concordia started the match shorthanded due to an injury to senior Grant Storm earlier in the week.
The Cobbers posted long rallies with the Scots, but were never able to come up with the key points.
Senior Jake Peters, the team's new No.1 player for the season, battled in the two closest matches on the day. He paired with Sean Martin at No.1 doubles and went back-and-forth before falling 8-3.
In singles play, Peters started slowly, losing 6-0 in the first set, and then found momentum in the second set only to drop a 6-3 decision.
Freshman Logan Voigt made his college debut at No.5 singles. Like Peters, he didn't get off to a good start but then played much better in the second set. Voigt was able to grab a pair of games in the second set in his 6-0, 6-2 loss.
UP NEXT: The Cobbers will look to improve in their next match when they host Northwestern (Minn.) on Friday, Feb. 18 at 5:30 p.m. at Courts Plus in Fargo.
