Young Named Men's Tennis Head Coach

MOORHEAD, Minn. (7/02/21)---Concordia Athletic Director Rachel Bergeson announced that Nate Young has been hired as the new men's tennis head coach.

The hiring separates the head coaching duties for the men's and women's programs. Zach Zitur, who was the head coach for both the men's and women's tennis programs, will continue as the head coach of the Cobber women's tennis team.

It will be the first time that the Cobber men's and women's tennis programs have had separate coaches since 2005.

"I felt it was important to have a coach for each program," Bergeson said. "The time and commitment it takes to recruit and develop the student-athletes in order to be successful in the MIAC was a driving force behind the decision. Now we will have two people dedicating time to each individual program."

Young, who was the assistant coach for both the men's and women's programs last season, is the current head coach for the girls' team at Fargo Shanley High School and an assistant coach for the boys' program. He served as the assistant coach for both teams prior to being named the head coach for the girls' team in 2020.

"I am excited to be a part of a school that not only provides a great atmosphere for athletics, but an equally respectable academic atmosphere," Young said. "Concordia has been home to many great student-athletes and alumni, and I am excited to be a part of continuing to build a culture that continues this tradition."

Young earned his bachelor's degree in Social Studies Education from MSU Moorhead, and while attending MSUM he founded the college's club team. He served as the club president for two years. Nate received the USTA Northern Sectional Leader of the year award in 2018.

"One of the short-term goals I have for the men's program is to build recruiting and retention," Young added. "We are a relatively small team, and this will be important in the immediate future to help begin to become more successful in the MIAC."
