Defensive Battle Against Wis.-River Falls

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/16/24)---If Concordia's second game of the weekend against a quality WIAC opponent was a baseball game it would have been a pitcher's duel between Clayton Kershaw and Justin Verlander.

The Cobbers' game against Wis.-River Falls was a defensive battle for the full 60 minutes with goals being hard to come by and the first team to score won. The Cobbers conceded the only goal of the game midway through the third period and lost 1-0 to the Falcons.

The Cobbers held a decided 27-17 edge in shots on goal as they lost for only the second time this season. CC is now 4-2-0 in all games. The Falcons end their 1-game losing skid and are now 3-1-0 for the year.

The Cobbers outshot River Falls in all three periods but could never crack the code of the Falcon's netminder. CC had a game-high 11 shots on target in the second period but were unable to get on the board.

Senior forward Isaac Henkemeyer-Howe posted a game-high five shots on goal for Concordia. He had three shots on target in the second period when CC outshot UWRF 11-7. Henkemeyer-Howe leads the Cobbers in shots on goal this year. He has 19 which is tied with teammate Hunter Olson and tied for third in the MIAC.

Sophomore Blaise Miller had four shots on goal and has 15 for the year.

Goalie Dane Couture turned aside 16 shots in his fourth straight start of the year. He also lowered his goals against average to 1.51 for the season.

Concordia will stay at home and host Gustavus on Friday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m.
