Cobber Time Claims Another Opponent

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/15/24)---From now on, the third period will officially be known as Cobber Time.
Concordia scored two unanswered goals in the final 12 minutes of its home opener against Wis.-Eau Claire and downed the Blugolds 3-1.

The Cobbers are now 4-1 on the year and have scored multiple goals in the third period in all four of their victories. CC has posted the game-winning goal in the third frame in three of its four wins and they are outscoring their opponents 11-3 in the final period in all five games this year.

Concordia got goals from a pair of unlikely sources as they upped their non-conference record to 3-0.

Defensemen Zach Stoner and Tal Halliday opened their scoring sheets for the season. The duo netted the Cobbers' first two goals of the game with Halliday posting the game-winning goal at 8:03 of the third period.

Stoner got the Cobbers on the board first when he sizzled a shot from the point that eluded the traffic in front of the goal and found the back of the net. The goal at 6:22 of the opening period came just after CC was staked to the first power play of the game.

Ben Luedtke was awarded the assist on Stoner's third career goal.

Neither team was able to put up a number on the board for the second half of the first period and the entire second frame.

The game changed in the sixth minute of the third period when the Blugolds tied the game on the power play at 5:48.

The game would remain tied for less than three minutes when Halliday jumped into an odd-man rush and redirected a pass from the near boards into the top corner of the net. The goal at 8:03 was the junior's first collegiate goal.

Joe Harguindeguy and Isaac Henkemeyer-Howe had the assists on the game-winning goal. It was Harguindeguy's third helper of the year and Henkemeyer-Howe recorded his team-leading fourth assist of the season.

Hanson O'Leary added the insurance goal at 14:18 when he collected a rebound and beat the Eau Claire goalie to the right side of the net. Hunter Bjorge came away with the assist on CC's third goal of the night.

Concordia netminder Dane Couture was solid for the full 60 minutes of play. He turned aside 29 shots to earn his fourth win of the year. Couture has allowed a single goal in three of the team's five games this year and is third in the MIAC in goals against average with a 1.60 mark.

The Cobbers will host Wis.-River Falls on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. as they finish off their WIAC non-conference weekend.
