2 In The First + 2 In The Third = MIAC-Opening Win

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.---Concordia scored the first two and last goals in its MIAC opener at Augsburg and downed the Auggies 4-1. Junior

Caden Triggs netted a pair of goals to keep the Cobbers unbeaten on the season.

Concordia never trailed in the conference as they bolted out of the gate with goals by Triggs and Joe Harguindeguy.

Triggs posted one of the fastest goals in Cobber history when he lit the lamp 10 seconds into the opening period. Hanson O'Leary won the opening faceoff and dropped the puck to Jackson Lucia who skated the puck over the center line and flipped it into the Augsburg end on the right wing. Hunter Olson beat everyone to the puck and slid a backhand pass to the top of the circle where Triggs snapped off a laser into the top corner of the net.

The goal was Trigg's first of the night while Lucia earned his first collegiate assist.

Harguindeguy gave CC a 2-0 lead at the 16:14 mark when he took a pass from Blaise Miller on a 2-on-1 rush and chopped home his first goal of the year.

Augsburg (1-2-0) came up with the only goal of the second period before Concordia put the game on ice with two strikes in the third. Miller netted his second goal of the season at 1:22 on an assist from Isaac Henkemeyer-Howe. The goal was Miller's second of the year and Henkemeyer-Howe collected his team-leading third assist. Both players have four points on the year which leads the team.

Triggs capped the scoring when he put home his own rebound from on top of the crease at 15:59. Olson and O'Leary were credited with the assists.

The Auggies held a slim 36-34 edge in shots on goal. Cobber netminder Dane Couture made 35 saves to pick up his third straight win of the year.

The two teams will finish off the series on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. at the Ed Saugestad Rink.
