2 Goals In The 3rd Lead To 2nd Straight Win

ASHLAND, Wis. (11/04/22)---Concordia broke open a 1-1 tie after two periods, by netting a pair of goals in the first 8-minutes of the third and went on to beat Northland 3-1.

The win is the second straight for the Cobbers who are now 2-1 on the season. The Lumberjacks are now 0-2-1 on the year.

Concordia never trailed in their third straight game played in Wisconsin. CC took a 1-0 lead in the final minute of the first period when Braden Costello scored an even-strength goal at the 19:01 mark. Liam Haslam and Hunter Bjorge were credited with the assists on Costello's first goal of the season. It would be Haslam's first of two assists on the night.

The Cobbers would take the 1-0 lead into the first intermission, and hold on to it for most of the second stanza. Northland was able to turn the table on CC when they scored in the final minute of the middle period to tie the game at 1-1.

Freshman Caden Triggs picked a perfect spot to pot his first collegiate goal. Triggs gave the Cobbers a 2-1 lead at the 33-second mark. Former Moorhead HS teammate Isaac Henkemeyer-Howe picked up one assist on the eventual game-winning goals, and senior defenseman Jaret Lalli earned the other one.

Concordia would add on an insurance goal when another first-year player came through for CC. Joe Harguindeguy posted his second goal if the season at 7:55 – and the Cobbers led by two at 3-1. Ben Luedtke and Haslam posted the helpers on the even strength strike.   

The Cobbers defense was able to shut down the Lumberjacks offense for the remainder of the game to come away with the 2-goal win.

Concordia outshot Northland in all three periods, and came away with a 36-20 advantage for the 60 minutes of play. Troy Dahlheimer led the way for CC with five shots.

Junior Matt Fitzgerald made his first start in goal for the Cobbers and turned aside 19 shots to earn his second career victory.

UP NEXT: Concordia will stay in Wisconsin to finish off the 2-game away weekend. CC will travel to Superior to take on Wis.-Superior on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m.
