Football Score Line Gives Olimb His First Collegiate Win

FON DU LAC, Wis. (10/30/22)---Concordia paid tribute to the NFL on Sunday as they scored a touchdown, added the extra point and held Marian to a single field goal in their 7-3 win.

The victory gives Cobber first-year head coach Kirk Olimb his first collegiate win.

Concordia scored at least to goals in every period in earning the series split. The Cobbers never tailed in the game as they built leads of 2-0 and 4-1. The Sabres scored back-to-back goals at the end of the middle period, and start of the third, to cut the margin to 4-3 but three unanswered scores sealed the win for CC.

The Cobbers had six different players score a goal in the first win of the year. Junior Cole O'Connell was the lone player to post a multiple-goal game. He scored two of the three Concordia goals in the third period.

Sophomore Troy Dahlheimer opened the scoring with his first collegiate goal at the 8:58 mark of the first period. Mason Plante doubled the lead less than 2-minutes later when he notched his second goal of the weekend at 10:02. Isaac Henkemeyer-Howe and Cole Lehmann had the assists on the goal. For Henkemeyer-Howe it would be the first of his three points on the night.

The Sabres would trim the lead to one goal with a power play strike in the final six minutes of the opening frame.

Concordia responded with the first two goals of the second period. Hanson O'Leary followed Plante's lead by picking up his second goal of the series. Senior Jacen Bracko followed with his first goal of the year at the 17:01 mark to stake CC to a 4-1 lead. Ryan Pogue and Boe Bjorge were credited with their first helpers of the year on the play.

Marian made a game of it with two goals 2:50 apart sandwiched around the second intermission. Their third goal of the game came only 48-seconds into the final period of play. Concordia was quick to respond as O'Connell came through with a power play goal at 3:48 to push CC back ahead by two goals. Plante and Henkemeyer-Howe had the assists.

Henkemeyer-Howe put the game out of reach when he posted his first goal of the season at 14:41. Braden Costello set up the power play tally which was CC's second of the series.

O'Connell finished off the scoring with an empty-net goal with 20-seconds left in the game. Freshman Ben Luedtke was awarded his first collegiate point on the play.

Concordia outshot Marian 32-30 in the game. Both teams were whistled for six penalties and both had a single power play goal. The Cobbers were 1-for-5 with the extra skater, while the Sabres went 1-for-6.

Aaron Dickstein got the start in goal for CC and made 27 saves to record his first win of the year.

UP NEXT: Concordia will stay on the road to start the season when they play at Northland on Friday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. CC will then head to Superior, Wis. to take on Wis.-Superior on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 2 p.m.
