Kang KO's Oles

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/09/12)—Brian Kang celebrated senior night in style by scoring both goals in the Cobbers' 2-1 win in overtime over St. Olaf in the conference opener for both teams. Kang tied the game in the final seven minutes of the third period and then won the game on a tip-in in the first minute of OT.

Besides the scoring prowess of Kang, junior goaltender Chris Neamonitis made sure the Concordia seniors would remember the night with a win. Neamonitis stopped 31 of the 32 shots he faced in the 61 minutes of play.

The only goal in the first 50 minutes of play in the game came in the second period when Ross Trousdale scored an even-strength goal at 7:05. The teams combined to put 37 shots on goal in the first two frames but both goalies were equal to the task.

The game turned midway through the third period when Kang collected his second goal of the season at the 13:01 mark. Adam Sundqvist and Ben Payne picked up the assists on the play. It would be the first of two assists on the night for Payne.

Neither team was able to score in the final minutes of play in regulation despite a major penalty whistled against the Cobbers. Concordia was able to kill off most of the penalty at the very end of the third period and then went to a 4-on-4 situation when the Oles were called for a tripping penalty with just 14-seconds remaining in the third period.

Kang netted the game winner just 47-seconds into the extra period when he tipped in a shot from Payne. Jared Maetche was also credited with the assist on the play.

St. Olaf wound up outshooting Concordia 32-21 in the game. The game was a tight, clean affair with only seven total penalties. CC was 1-for-2 on the power play while the Oles went 0-for-3.

The two teams will finish off their two-game series on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. at the Moorhead Sports Center.
