Cobbers Blank Royals In Home Opener

Kelly Andrew stopped all 24 shots he faced and Concordia scored a single goal in each of the second and third periods to beat Bethel 2-0 in the home opener for the Cobbers.

The win is the first conference victory of the year for the Cobbers who move to 1-1-1 in league play in 2011. CC is now 4-2-1 overall on the year.

Chris Beede scored in the second period to break a 0-0 tie after the teams had skated through 26:00 of scoreless hockey. Beede connected on his first goal of the season on the power play at the 6:01 mark of the middle frame. Caleb Suderman and Brian Kang were credited with the assists on the play.

Thielen then added the insurance goal with less than 4:00 to play in the third period. His first goal of the year at 16:19 gave CC a commanding 2-0 lead. Erick Galt picked up the helper on the goal.

Andrew was a wall the entire game as he returned to his form from 2010-11. He stopped 24 shots and kept CC in the game until the offense could get rolling. For Andrew it was his first shutout of the year and second overall win.

The two teams will finish off their two-game series on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. at the Moorhead Sports Center.
