Cobbers Start Away-Home MIAC Weekend

ST. PAUL, Minn. (10/11/24)---Concordia started its away-home conference doubleheader weekend by dropping a 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-16) decision at St. Catherine.

Concordia all three sets on a positive note and were leading, or within one point, for the first 13 points of each set. The Cobbers ran into trouble in the middle of each set when the Wildcats were able to go on extended runs to seize the momentum.

The first set was tied at 7-7 and then St. Kate's went on a 7-2 run and CC wasn't able to get within four points for the remainder of the set. Concordia trailed 8-7 in the second set and stayed close until the final 12 points when the Wildcats pulled away by claiming eight of those points. The Cobbers trailed 7-6 in the third set and then the Wildcats pushed the lead to seven points at 15-8 which closed out the third set.

Concordia hit .079 for the match and had 28 kills, while St. Catherine recorded 47 winners and posted a .287 attack percentage.

First-year front-line player Cayla Sailer led the Cobbers with eight kills in 30 attack chances. She also added nine digs.

Mallory Leitner added six kills, while Jordyn Johnson came away with five winners and hit a team-high .222.           

Betsy Schiltz had 19 assists and a team-high 13 digs to post her second double-double of the season.

Concordia will finish off the weekend doubleheader by hosting St. Scholastica on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 2 p.m.
