Home Momentum Doesn't Travel To Northfield

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (10/14/22)---Concordia couldn't carry its winning momentum they grabbed at home on to the road, and lost 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-22) at Carleton.

The Cobbers entered the match having won three of their last four matches – with two of those victories coming at home. The success streak didn't travel to Northfield as they were swept by the Knights after finishing the match with a .054 attack percentage.

The loss drops Concordia's overall record to 5-13 on the year. CC is 2-4 in the MIAC. Carleton is a similar 5-13 in all matches, earns its first conference win and is now 1-6 in league play.

The middle of the first set proved to be crucial for the Cobbers. Concordia trailed 12-10, but then the Knights went on a 10-4 streak to take a 22-14 lead. Carleton closed out the first set with consecutive points after CC had closed to within 23-16.

The second set was settled late. The Cobbers had multiple-point leads at 10-5 and 18-13, before the Knights won six straight points to take a 19-18 lead. CC picked up the next point on an attack error to tie the set at 19-19. The teams would then trade points until Carleton won four of the last five points.

The third set was also close until the end. CC trailed early, but then scored four straight points to get to within one point at 12-11. The Knights then won the next three points, and nine of the next 12 points to grab a 21-14 edge. The Cobbers called timeout, and then battled back to win eight of the next 11 points to get to within two at 24-2. Carleton closed out the match with a kill to win the set 25-22.

Concordia hit .054 for the match with their top mark coming in the second set at .103. Carleton hit at least .110 in all three sets and finished with a .150 attack percentage.

The Cobbers trailed 41-29 in kills and 127-112 in total attacks. CC did have a 57-56 edge in digs and an 8.0-5.0 margin in blocks.

Anna Brakke and Brook Carney both had seven kills to lead Concordia. Brakke also had a team-best .143 attack percentage and added a team-high 15 digs.

Kaia Lill came away with 26 assists, while Maria Watt posted four blocks. Watt now has 11 blocks in the team's last three matches.
