Endings Of Sets 3 & 4 Stymie Cobbers

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/07/22)---Concordia was outscored 12-5 down the stretch in sets No.3 and No.4, and fell 3-1 (25-18, 15-25, 27-25, 25-23) to St. Scholastica.

The Cobbers and Saints were tied at 1-1 in sets, and CC had a 23-20 lead in the third set as they were set to take a 2-1. Unfortunately for Concordia, St. Scholastica won seven of the next nine points to grab the 27-25 win. The third set was tied at 20-20, and then CC allowed five of the next eight points and lost 25-23.

The loss ends a 2-match win streak for the Cobbers who are now 4-12 overall and 1-3 in the MIAC. The Saints win for the second time in the last three matches and are now 9-6 in all matches and 3-2 in the league.

The teams each had extensive point streak in the first two sets to claim victories. St. Scholastica close out the opening set by going on a 10-5 stretch after CC had cut the margin to two points at 15-13. The Cobbers returned the favor in the middle set by going on an 11-0 run after CSS was up 9-4.

Concordia had an edge in both hitting percentage and kills for the match. The Cobbers hit .127 as opposed to .120 for the Saints, and CC held a 52-51 edge in kills.

The Cobbers had three players with at least 10 kills in the match. Anna Brakke led the way with 15 winners and hit .151, while Hannah Keil posted 11 winners and Kendra Wiggs recorded 10 kills and hit .231. Brakke also had 20 digs to record her third straight double-double and seventh of the year.

Sophomore Maria Watt had her best match of the season. She came away with five kills, hit .143 and recorded two blocks.

Kaia Lill had 43 assists which helped her surpass the 500-helper mark for the year. She is now fifth in the MIAC with 537 assists for the season.

Chloe Markovic had a team-high 27 digs on the night. Her season mark of 300 digs is good for fourth in the conference.
