Cobbers Fall To Nationally-Ranked Auggies

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (9/17/22)---Concordia gave up an 11-1 run at the end of the first set which led to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-8) loss at No.24-ranked Augsburg in the conference opener for the Cobbers.

Concordia (2-7, 0-1 MIAC) was tied with the nationally-ranked Auggies at 14-14 in the opening set begore Augsburg was able to win 11 of the final 12 points in the set.

The second set went back-and-forth until the final few points. The set was tied on five different occasions after senior Kendra Wiggs came up with a kill to give CC a 14-12 lead. The set was decided after the Cobbers tied the match at 23-23 on another winner from Wiggs. The Auggies were able to come up with the final two points and earn the 25-23 win.

Augsburg (9-1, 2-0 MIAC) held a 36-24 advantage in kills, and a 50-44 edge in digs for the day.

Wiggs led the Cobber offense with nine kills. She also hit a team-best .316 and had one block. Wiggs is hitting .304 for the season which is third best in the MIAC.

Anna Brakke and Hannah Keil were the only other CC players with more than one kill in the match. Brakke had six winners to go with five digs, while Keil finished with five kills, three digs and a block.

Kaia Lill came up with 19 assists and Chloe Markovic had a team-high 12 digs. Hanna Mooney recorded eight digs in the match.

UP NEXT: Concordia will return home to host Bethel on Monday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. The Royals are 6-4-0 on the season.
