End Of Sets Spoil Cobbers' Chances At Valley City State

VALLEY CITY, N.D. (9/15/22)---Concordia competed the pre-conference portion of its schedule by dropping a 3-0 (25-17, 30-28, 25-23) decision at Valley City State.

The match was a statistically even affair with the Cobbers hitting .205 with 42 kills and 55 digs as opposed to a .206 attack percentage with 48 winners and 52 digs for the Vikings.  

The difference in the match came at the end of the second and third sets. One of the biggest deciding factors in the match came in the second when Concordia had four set points to even the contest at 1-1. The Cobbers led 24-23, 25-24, 27-26 and 28-27 but couldn't come up with critical "next point" and dropped the set 30-28.

The third set was tied at 20-20 and then again at 23-23, before Valley City came up with a kill and then won the match on an attack error from CC.

The loss drops the Cobbers' overall record to 2-6 on the year. The Vikings win for the third straight match and move to 6-7 on the year.

The Concordia senior tandem of Anna Brakke and Kendra Wiggs both had a team-high 10 kills. Brakke hit .346 in 26 total attack chances, while Wiggs had a team-high .360 attack percentage in 25 chances. Brakke also came through with 10 digs and two blocks. Wiggs had a team-high four blocks.

Chloe Markovic added to her team-high digs total by adding 19 more. She now has 168 for the season.

Junior Kaia Lill posted 34 assists, put up three kills and added five digs.

UP NEXT: Concordia will open MIAC play when they play at No.24-ranked Augsburg on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 1 p.m. The Auggies are 8-1 and have won six straight.
