Cobbers Claim A Pair At Mayville State

MAYVILLE, N.D. (10/05/12)-- Concordia claimed a pair of non-conference victories at Mayville State on Frdiay. The Cobbers cruised past Presentation (S.D.) 3-0 and then edged the host Comets 3-2.

The two wins evens Concordia's record at 8-8 for the season. 

The Cobbers started the non-conference jamboree by posting a convincing 25-14, 25-14, 25-13 over the Saints. Freshman Olivia Wangensteen had seven kills to lead CC. Concordia had a balanced attack against Presentation as several players recorded at least five kills and 10 digs.

Concordia had to work for their second win of the night. The Cobbers dropped the first set 25-17 against Mayville State before rallying to take the next two at 27-25 and 25-22. CC then watched the Comets even the match at two sets all when they recorded a 25-19 victory in the fourth set. Concordia refused to give in to the Comets in the deciding fifth set and prevailed 15-13. It marked the sixth time this season that the Cobbers have been taken to a fifth set. CC is now 3-3 in those matches but has won three of the last four five-set thrillers.

Kynndyl Ross had a career-high 20 kills to lead the Concordia attack against the Comets. Anna Skow-Anderson also had a career high in kills in the second match. Skow-Anderson came away with 15 winners. It was the first time in her career that she has had a double-digit kill total. Rachel Wiinanen paced the CC defense with 17 digs.

Concordia will return to MIAC action when they host Macalester on Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m.
