A Trifecta of Record-Setting Days At The MIAC Meet

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (2/24/24)---It was business as usual for the Cobbers on Saturday at the MIAC Indoor Championship Meet. Another day, another school record.

That makes three days of events at the 2024 MIAC Meet and three days where Concordia athletes broke a program record.

The school record in the first event of the day helped Concordia post a final team score of 61.5 points, which earned CC a 6th-place finish in the final team standings. The 61.5 team points is an increase of 8.5 points from last year's total.

It was a group effort on Saturday with the 4x200-meter relay team opening the day by bettering the 13-year-old record in the event. The group of Emily Rengo, Andie Sandman, Piper Osborne and Kyla Nygaard raced around the track at St. Olaf and put up a time of 1:46.69 on the scoreboard. That mark was good for third place in the event. More importantly, it beat the old school record of 1:47.65 that was set back in 2011 by Macey Bentley, Gina Weiss, Natalie Decker and Tatijana MullerDahlberg.

Rengo and Meg Shercliffe were the other track athletes to score team points by finishing in the Top 8 of an event. Rengo added to her 6th-place finish in the 60-meter dash on Friday by placing seventh in the 200 meters on Saturday in a time of 26.75.

Shercliffe came through in the middle distance with an 8th-place finish in the 600 meters. Shercliffe entered the event with the No.9 seed time and improved that by one spot to get into a podium finish. Shercliffe came home in a career-best time of 1:39.72. She only missed out on a Top 5 finish by .91 of a second.

A second member of the record-setting relay team also had success in an individual event. Competing in her first year as a triple jumper, Osborne claimed a Top 5 finish in the event. She bounded to a career-best distance of 35-04.50 and placed fourth.

Concordia finished off the MIAC Meet by taking second in the 4x400-meter relay. The Cobber crew of Nygaard, Shercliffe, Drew Frolek and Rengo completed the race in a season-best time of 4:03.67. That mark is No.8 on the school's all-time list.

UP NEXT: Concordia's next meet will be the NCAA Last Chance Qualifier hosted by Wartburg on Mar. 1-2 where CC athletes will try and up their marks to get into the national meet.
