Hovland And Selle Lead Cobbers On Day 1 At MIAC Indoor Meet

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (02/25/22)---Led by field athletes Cayle Hovland and Peyton Selle, Concordia is in seventh place after the first day at the MIAC Indoor Championship Meet.

Selle, who won the pentathlon on Thursday, scored team points in both the 55-meter hurdles and high jump on Friday, while Hovland earned the top finish on Day 1 for the Cobbers as she placed second in the weight throw.

Concordia has 36 team points after the first 11 events of the meet.

Selle qualified for the finals of the 55-meter hurdles by running an 8.90 in the prelims. She then crossed the line in 8.95 in the finals to finish in seventh place. Selle posted a Top 3 finish in the high jump by clearing 4-11.05, which earned her a tie for third place in the event.

Hovland led a group of three Cobbers that all earned team points in the weight throw. She finished second in the event with a distance of 53-07.50 which came on her second attempt of the day. That mark is a personal best for Hovland and the second farthest toss in program history.

Allyson Kangas finished sixth in the weight throw with a mark of 48-06.25, and Jacey Schlosser was eighth at 45-04.50.    

Senior Isabel Fredrickson posted the top track finish on Day 1 for the Cobbers. She clocked a 5:14.19 in the mile and placed sixth in the event. Her finishing time is a season-best mark by 9-seconds and fourth fastest in school history.

Freshman Drew Frolek was ninth in the 800 meters after she crossed the line in a time of 2:25.48 in her first collegiate championship event.

The top relay for the Cobbers on Day 1 was the distance medley relay team of Eden Smith, Meg Shercliffe, Kelly Lorenz and Emily Rugloski. The quartet ran a 13:03.64 and finished fifth in the event.

UP NEXT: Concordia will finish off the MIAC Indoor Championship Meet on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 12 p.m. at Carleton College in Northfield.
