Cobbers Tune Up For MIAC Meet At UND Tune-Up

GRAND FORKS, Minn. (02/20/22)---Concordia finished off the indoor regular season by returning to Grand Forks to compete in the UND Tune-Up.

The Cobbers used the meet to tune up for next weekend's MIAC Indoor Championship Meet – and senior Cayle Hovland showed she is more than ready to face conference competition. Hovland posted a career-best mark in the weight throw and finished in the Top 9 in each of the throwing events.

Hovland's performance was one of the highlights that featured a dozen Top 7 finishes and seven personal best marks at a meet that was mainly athletes from UND, NDSU and MSU Moorhead.

Hovland's break through mark in the weight throw came on her second attempt in the prelims when she let loose with a toss of 53-03.00. That distance is the second farthest in school history and second best in the MIAC this season. It also puts Hovland in the No.25 spot in DIII this year.

Hovland was also fifth in the shot put at UND with a mark of 42-11.50.

The other top finishes for the Cobbers on Saturday came in the middle distance and distance events. Drew Frolek continued her solid first season of college indoor track by placing second in the 600 meters with a time of 1:41.44. She will enter the MIAC Meet ranked seventh in the 600 meters, eighth in the 800 meters and 11th in the mile.

Sophomore Kelly Lorenz finished second in the 800 meters on the completely confusing UND track. She posted a time of 2:29.02, which using the Pythagorean Therom and Newton's first law of motion, converts into a time of 2:30.74. That time is a new PR for Lorenz.

Amelia Landsverk and Emily Rugloski went 6-7 in the mile. Landsverk's converted time of 5:35.05 is a season best mark.

Kyra Nichols had a Top 5 finish in the triple jump. She recorded a distance of 32-08.25, which needs no conversion, and is a season and personal best for Nichols. It also gets her into the Top 15 of the conference.

The Cobbers' top relay at the UND Tune-Up came from the squad of Peyton Selle, Isabel Fredrickson, Eden Smith and Frolek who ran a calculus converted time of 4:13.81 which is a season best and the fifth fastest in the MIAC this year.
