Season Bests And 2nd-Place Finishes Rule At Home Opener
MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/20/24)---It was a night for season-best times and second-place finishes for Concordia in their 2024-25 home opener against the University of Jamestown.
The Cobbers turned in eight runner-up finishes and had a blizzard's worth of season-best marks in their first dual meet of the year. In the end, the Jimmies were able to use their depth to post a 165-66 victory over CC.
First-year swimming Leah Enedy and senior diver Kiernan Darling recorded the only event wins for Concordia on the night. Enedy captured the title in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:21.52, while Darling was first in the voluntary dive portion of the 1-meter dive event. Darling finished with a total of 159.05 points which was 8.95 ahead of the second-place finisher.
Enedy's time in the 200-yard IM jumps her into the Top 20 of the MIAC.
Enedy also swam the 200-yard backstroke for the first time in her collegiate career and touched the wall in second place. She clocked a 2:24.36 in the event.
In addition to her win in the voluntary section of the 1-meter dive, Darling also placed second in the 5-dive optional portion of the event. She came away with a total of 204.35 points which was almost 20 points higher than her previous season's best.
Senior Hailey Jaeger earned a duo of second-place finishes at the meet. She was runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 2:06.14 – her mark was only .15 of a second off the winning time in the event and just inside the Top 20 of the MIAC.
Jaeger came home in 57.03 in the 100-yard freestyle and placed second in the event. Her time is a season bet by over a full second.
Junior Tinsley Porter also used the 100-yard freestyle to post a season-best mark. She recorded a mark of 1:02.58. That time was the fastest "in-season" finish of her collegiate career.
Like Jaeger, sophomore Callie Metsala claimed runner-up finishes in two events. She was second in the 50-yard freestyle and 200-yard butterfly. She clocked a 25.40 in the 50 free and touched the wall in 2:28.91 in the 200 butterfly.
Metsala competed in both events for the first time all season and her times in both events are in the Top 20 of the conference. Her mark in the 50-yard freestyle is sixth fastest in the MIAC this year.
The final individual second-place finish belonged to senior Haley Imholte who produced a season-best time of 2:58.08 in the 200-yard breaststroke.
Concordia's 200-yard medley relay team of Jaeger, Metsala, Imholte and Enedy set the tone for the night when they posted a second-place finish in the meet's very first event. The group swam a season-best time of 1:57.93 which was only .31 of a second off the time posted by the Cobbers at last year's MIAC Championship Meet.
The Cobbers will return to multi-team invitational action when they compete in the WildBear Invite hosted by St. Catherine and Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 10 a.m.
