Cobbers Cap Off 2023 At Macalester Invite

ST. PAUL, Minn. (12/2/23)---Concordia finished off the 2023 portion of its schedule by competing in the 2-day Macalester Invitational.

The Cobbers continued to post season-best marks and finished eighth in the final team standings.

Junior diver Kiernan Darling and first-year swimmer Callie Metsala paved the way for Concordia in St. Paul. Darling posted Top 5 finishes in both diving events, while Metsala scored team points in all her individual events.

Darling placed fourth in the 3-meter competition with a total of 284.55. The highlight for Darling was that she was able to score on her reverse 1.5 with 0.5 twist – a new dive for her list. Darling took fifth on the 1-meter on Day two and was able to come away with points in two more new dives. She recorded a total of 259.90.

Metsala came through with Top 15 finishes in four different events. Her shining moment came in the 100-yard butterfly, where she touched the wall in 1:01.99, which is only 0.94 of a second off the school record set by Sarah Nelson in 2017.

Metsala also finished 11th in both breaststroke events. She came home in 1:14.48 in the 100-yard breaststroke and then posted a time of 2:41.31 in the 200-yard event. Metsala's final Top 15 mark came in the 200-yard individual medley on Friday, where she swam a 2:20.64 and was the No.15 finisher.

The top relay finish for the Cobbers came in the 200-yard medley relay. The squad of Christina Moore, Metsala, Chea Baugh and Brienna Timm put together a time of 2:03.84, which earned them a 13th-place finish and was only 2.34 seconds away from a Top 10 mark.

Timm, Baugh, Moore and Haley Juetten also had noteworthy performances during the 2-day event.

Timm raced to a 6:14.42 in the 500-yard freestyle and came from behind to win her heat. Her finishing time is a college best by 12 seconds.

First-year sprinter Baugh had the best meet of her young college career. Her breakthrough performance came in the 100-yard freestyle, where she touched the wall in 59.61. She won her heat with a season-best time.

Moore continues to improve throughout her sophomore season. She clocked a 2:37.62 in the 200-yard backstroke, which is only 2 seconds off of her best time from the MIAC Meet last year.

Juetten had success in both breaststroke events. Her time of 1:19.55 in the 100-yard breaststroke was only 1.69 seconds away from scoring team points. Juetten finished off her weekend by recording a time of 2:55.60 in the 200-yard breaststroke.

The Energizer Bunny Award of the Meet went to senior Lindsey Biebl, who was competing in the final meet of her college career.
