Another Relay Provides A Spotlight Moment At MIAC Meet

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (2/17/23)---For the second straight night it was a relay team that stepped into the spotlight at the MIAC Championship Meet.

The Cobber 200-yard freestyle relay team of Kaitlin Cramer, Jess Bray, Audrey Zeleny and Hailey Jaeger provided the most dramatic moment of the meet so far for Concordia. The quartet came from behind in the final legs, passed both Hamline and Augsburg and out touched the Pipers and Auggies for seventh place.   

Concordia's finals time of 1:44.37 is a season-best mark by 5.27 seconds and proved to be almost 2-seconds ahead of Hamline.

Cramer and Jaeger posted the top finishing spots in the prelims for the Cobbers. Cramer clocked a 1:03.09 in the 100-yard backstroke and finished in 18th place – two spots out of the B final. Cramer's time is the second fastest of her collegiate career.

For the second straight day, Jaeger came within .50 of a second from qualifying to score team points for Concordia. She swam a 2:02.14 in the 200-yard freestyle, and was .30 of a second from swimming in the night session. Her finishing time was a college best mark. Jaeger has now missed the B final in the 50-yard and 200-yard freestyles by a combined total of .41 of a second.

Junior Brienna Timm also posted a collegiate-best time in the 200-yard freestyle. She posted a time of 2:11.17 in the prelims which was 6-seconds faster than her previous season-best mark.    

The Cobbers had five athletes post season-best times in the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard breaststroke. Bray and Zeleny had their best times in the 100-yard butterfly, while Haley Juetten, Chantelle Schmidt and Tinsley Porter did the same in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Freshman Christina Moore continued her breakout conference meet as she recorded another lifetime best time. On Thursday she went 10-seconds faster than her previous PR in the 200-yard IM. On Friday she had a huge PR drop in the 100-yard backstroke when she swam a 1:08.53.

UP NEXT: Concordia will finish off the 2023 MIAC Meet when they compete in the Day 4 prelims at 10:30 a.m. and then the finals at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18 at the Univ. of Minnesota.
