A Stellar Senior Celebration Weekend

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/28/23)---Concordia finished off the "regular season" portion of its schedule by competing in a trio of dual meets over the weekend. The Cobbers split the double dual meet with Jamestown and the University of Mary on Friday, and then fell at Minn.-Morris on Saturday.

Concordia opened the weekend by hosting the annual Senior Celebration Meet. The Cobbers honored the seniors during their meet with Jamestown and Mary, and then produced the closest margin of victory in program history at the end of the meet.

Concordia held off Jamestown and posted a 101-100 win the dual with the Jimmies. CC lost to Division II Mary 152-61 during the same double dual meet.

The Cobbers used their depth to down the Jimmies on Friday. They used multiple swimmers in events that they weren't used to swimming in order to gain valuable team points.

Hailey Jaeger posted the top finishes for Concordia as she finished second in the 100-yard freestyle and third in the 50-yard freestyle.

Sophomore diver Kiernan Darling claimed second place in the 1-meter event with a score of 208.65.

Junior Brienna Timm scored valuable team points by dropping 36-seconds off her time in the 1000-yard freestyle and finishing in third place.

Kaitlin Cramer came away with a third-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a season-best time of 2:22.72. Freshman Christina Moore dropped 14-seconds off her season best in the same race and placed fifth to give CC more team points.   

Cramer, Tinsley Porter and Rachel Andersen boosted the team total when they posted a 4-5-6 finish in the 200-yard freestyle. Cramer led the way with a time of 2:13.98.

A pair of seniors made a huge difference in the meet. Lindsey Biebl came through with a PR time of 6:03.68 in the 400-yard individual medley, while Jess Bray swam the 200-yard butterfly for the first time in her career and was able to touch the wall in 2:55.91.   

The top relay team for CC on Friday was the 200-yard medley quartet of Camille Gunderson, Haley Juetten, Moore and Audrey Zeleny who all had strong splits and came home in third place with a time of 2:09.70.

Saturday's dual at Morris featured event wins from Jaeger, Cramer and Darling. Jaeger won the 200-yard freestyle with a mark of 2:06.38. Cramer touched the wall first in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:07.72, while Darling was tops in the 1-meter dive event.

Jaeger was also second in the 100-yard butterfly at 1:07.85.

Bray was third in the 200-yard freestyle to give the Cobbers two swimmers in the Top 3. Bray clocked a 2:13.92 and was a full 2-seconds ahead of the fourth-place finisher.  

Timm posted a season-best time of 2:35.93 to grab second place in the 200-yard individual medley.

Concordia finished off the meet by swimming a time of 4:00.88 in the 400-yard freestyle relay with the squad of Gunderson, Bray, Jaeger and Cramer. Their finishing time was good for second place in the event.

UP NEXT: The Cobbers will now set their sights on the MIAC Championship Meet. CC will have a 2-week taper period before competing at the conference meet on Feb. 15-18.
