Cobbers Dive Into Competitive Season

MORRIS, Minn. (11/06/21)---The wait was finally over for the Cobbers. After training for over a month, Concordia started their competitive season by swimming against Minn.-Morris and Southwest MN State in a double dual at Morris.

Concordia had several highlights on the swimming side, but one of the biggest moments for CC was the college debut of freshman diver Kiernan Darling. Darling finished second in the 1-meter dive competition which marked the first time since the 2018 season that the Cobbers have had a diver compete in meets.

Darling finished the 1-meter event with 169.80 points which was only 6.70 points behind the winner.

Senior Alexandra Rasmussen and junior Kaitlin Cramer led the Cobber swimming contingent. Both athletes recorded 2nd-place finishes at the meet.

Rasmussen was second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 57.45. Her time was less than 1-second off the winning mark posted by Addi Schroeder from DII Southwest MN State. Rasmussen also came through with a stellar time in the 200-yard freestyle relay where she posted a 5-yard leg of 25.80.

Cramer was runner-up in the 200-yard backstroke. She clocked a time of 2:28.36.

Freshman Hailey Jaeger had a breakout meet in her first collegiate competition. She was third in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 57.84 – only .39 of a second behind teammate Rasmussen. Jaeger was also fourth in the 50-yard freestyle and then swam a 25.80 in her leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Rasmussen and Jaeger were joined by Jess Bray and Camille Gunderson on the 200 free relay team. The quartet touched the wall in a time of 1:47.81 which was only .93 of a second behind second place.

The Cobber second team in the 200-freestyle relay beat both the Morris and Southwest MN State second teams. Audrey Zeleny, Emily Oswald, Brienna Timm and Rachel Andersen came home with a mark of 1:56.1
