Back In Action In Bismarck
BISMARCK, N.D. (12/07/19)---Concordia returned to competition after a month break and lost to Division II University of Mary 176-44 in a dual meet in Bismarck.
The Cobbers had six Top 3 finishes and a relay team post a season-best time as they battled in their fourth dual meet of the year. Concordia's freestylers stepped into the spotlight on Saturday as they earned four of the six Top 3 finishes.
Junior Anna Backes had a pair of Top 3 finishes. She started the top-finish parade by placing second in the 1000-yard freestyle which was the second event of the afternoon. Backes clocked an 11:54.49 in the race which was only .33 of a second off her season-best time.
Backes also placed third in the much shorter 100-yard freestyle. She touched the wall in 1:01.09.
Sophomore Alexandra Rasmussen had the other runner-up finish for Concordia at the dual meet. She swam a 26.90 and was second in the 50-yard freestyle.
Freshman Lindsey Biebl was the third Cobber freestyler to place in the Top 3. She was third in the 200-yard freestyle after posting a time of 2:18.61.
Cami Gunderson and Allison Marcus had the non-freestyle Top 3 finishes. Gunderson recorded a time of 1:11.88 and was third in the 100-yard backstroke. Her time is a mere .01 of a second off her season best. Allison was third in the 200-yard IM after swimming a 2:39.05.
It was no surprise that a freestyle relay team would finish off the meet with a season best time. The quartet of Bieble, Gunderson, Rasmussen and Backes clocked a 1:51.45 in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Their finishing time bettered their seed time of 1:52.87 by 1.42 seconds.
UP NEXT: Concordia will have another extended break from competition for the Christmas holiday. They will return to the pool on Friday, Jan. 17 when they compete in the first day of the MSU Dragon Invite at the Hulbert Aquatic Center in West Fargo.
