Primed And Ready

ST. PAUL, Minn. (1/26/13)—Concordia is officially primed and ready for the MIAC Championship Meet. The Cobbers put up 25 season-best times and scored 61 points higher than their seed total en route to a fourth-place finish at the St. Kate's Invite.

"We had a really good day today, commented head coach Julie Lucier. " I was really pleased with our overall effort throughout the entire meet."

The eight-team invite at St. Kate's was the final regular-season meet before the Cobbers compete at the conference championship meet in three weeks. Concordia captured fourth place with a total of 407.5 points and was less than 28 points from finishing in the top 3.

The Cobber dive crew kick started the meet by scoring the most points of any diving squad at the meet. Freshmen Jana Hedstrom and Alexa Bateman both posted top 5 finishes in the 1-meter and 3-meter events and senior Cindy Moss was seventh in both events. Hedstrom was second in the 3-meter with a score of 334.30 points and fifth in the 1-meter with a total of 317.45. Bateman placed fourth in the 1-meter just two points better than Hedstrom at 319.45.

The two top swimming finishes came from a trio of freshmen. Megan Obrecht, Kasey Lyng and Rachel Aldinger all posted sixth-place finishes. Obrecht went 1:18.59 in the 100-yard breaststroke and placed sixth. Lyng was sixth in the 200-yard breaststroke with a final time of 2:45.78. That time was almost five seconds faster than her seed time. Aldinger was sixth in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 20:10.93. Obrecht also finished ninth in the 200-yard breaststroke while Lyng was eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Concordia's top relay event came in the 400-yard freestyle relay where the quartet of Jolene Baker, Aldinger, Jordan Peterson and Kelsey Appert were third in a time of 4:01.15. The Cobbers entered the meet with a seed time of 4:04.24.

Concordia will now have a three-week break to taper and prepare for the MIAC Championship Meet. The Cobbers will compete against the other 10 conference schools on Feb. 14-16 at the Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
