Bisek's Pin Provides Highlight vs. No.1-ranked Augsburg
MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/17/24)---Concordia led No.1-ranked Augsburg after two matches, but then ran into eight straight Top 6-ranked wrestlers and lost 45-6.
The dual was the final dual meet of the year for the Cobbers, who finished off the "regular season" with a 6-4 record. Augsburg ups their record to 10-1 on the season.
The Cobbers trailed 4-0 after the opening match at 125 where sophomore Kie Anderson battled into the third period before losing a 12-0 major decision.
The lone win of the night came courtesy of No.5-ranked Ty Bisek. Bisek trailed 3-1 after the first period after giving up an early-match takedown. After the second period started in the neutral position, Bisek scored a takedown and got his opponent turned on his back to come away with a pin at 3:44.
The victory was Bisek's 23rd of the season and 83rd of his Cobber career. Bisek is 23-2 on the year and has 11 pins as he gets set to wrestle at the NCAA regional meet.
The other two dramatic moments of the night for the Cobbers came at 141 and 149. Senior Gabe Bellefeuille came up with a patented back reversal late in his match with No.6-Sam Stuhl. Fellow senior Kellen Schauer battled for three solid periods at 149 and went the distance with No.3-ranked Charlie Stuhl. Schauer gave up a takedown in the first period but went 1-1 with Stuhl for the final two periods before Stuhl added the extra point for riding time.
UP NEXT: Concordia will have a 2-week break before competing at the NCAA Upper Midwest Regional Meet on Mar. 1-2 at Wis.-Stevens Point.
