Five Honored On Senior Celebration Night

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/14/23)---Concordia honored its five seniors for the annual Senior Celebration Night before the 4-match exhibition with St. John's.

The teams were originally scheduled to compete in a competitive dual meet on the night, but due to the lack of wrestlers for the Johnnies, it was turned into an exhibition with only four matches.

Concordia recorded a pair of wins, both of which came by pin. Sophomore Junior Surpris won his match at 197 in the final 7-seconds. He was able to turn his opponent in the final 30-seconds of the third period, and then got his shoulders on the mat for the tap out just before the final buzzer went off.

The win was Surpris' fourth of the year and second pin of the season.

Freshman Mason Swanson needed little time in dispatching his opponent at 285. He controlled the match from the opening whistle, scored a takedown in the first 30-seconds and then got the pin at the 1:13 mark.

Swanson is now 15-10 on the year with eight wins by pin. He will be on the team's squad that will compete in the upcoming NCAA Upper Midwest Regional.

UP NEXT: Concordia will have a 10-day break before they head back into Wisconsin for the regional meet. The Cobbers will travel to Mequon, Wis. to participate in the Upper Midwest Regional at Concordia University on Feb. 24-25. The Top 3 finishers in each weight class at the meet will earn a spot in the NCAA National Meet on Mar. 10-11 in Roanoke, Va.
