Cobbers Split Duals In Bismarck

BISMARCK, N.D. (12/07/22)---Concordia split their two dual matches at the University of Mary Triangular Meet. The Cobbers won eight of the 10 matches in the opener and beat Dickinson State 39-9. CC then dropped nine of the 10 matches against the No.8-ranked Marauders and fell 41-3.   

Freshman heavyweight Mason Swanson was the only Cobber to record two wins on the day. He came through with a pin at the 4:14 mark in his match with Chase Nutting from Bismarck, then battled to a 3-1 win over Levi Malcolm from the University of Mary.

Swanson is now 8-3 on the year since joining the team after competing for the Concordia football team in the fall. He has won six of his last seven matches.

Concordia (2-1) opened the day by cruising past Dickinson State. The Cobbers won five of the first six contested matches against the Blue Hawks. CC finished the dual by posting five victories by pin. Besides the pin by Swanson at 285, No.7-ranked Ty Bisek (133), Jacob Prunty (149), Elijah Hunt (165) and Gabe Zierden (197) also claimed pin wins.

Bisek ran his win streak to matches to nine with his victory in the opener. The pin for Bisek was his team-leading sixth of the season. Like Bisek, Cade Lundeen, Prunty and Zierden and also recorded their ninth win of the year.

Lundeen came through with a 6-5 decision at 141 and is now 9-1 for the year.

The other wins for the Cobbers against Dickinson State came from Tyler Bents and Ayden Friese. Bents won 5-2 at 157 and ran his record to 5-1, while Friese captured a 5-4 decision at 184 to push his season mark to 4-2.

Bisek wound up losing his first bout of the year in the dual with Mary. He dropped a 9-1 major decision against Reece Barnhardt who is ranked 10th in the latest NWCA Division II poll.

The Marauders had two other wrestlers ranked in the Top 15 in Division II compete in the dual. Zierden got caught at the start of the second period and lost by a pin to No.11-ranked Matt Kaylor. Hunt also lost by pin. He fell at 165 to No.9-ranked Braydon Huber.

The two closest matches against Mary came at 141 and 149. Lundeen lost 7-4 to Laken Boese, while Prunty fell 3-1 to Leo Mushinsky.

UP NEXT: Concordia will head to Ohio to compete in the Kalahari Duals hosted by Heidelberg University on Saturday, Dec. 17 at the Kalahari Resort in Sandusky.
