Bisek Heads Group Of 7 To Advance To Day 2 At NCAA Regional

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (02/25/22)---The goal of multiple national meet qualifiers is still intact for Concordia after the first day of the NCAA Upper Midwest Regional Meet at Wis.-Eau Claire.

Led by freshman Ty Bisek, the Cobbers had seven wrestlers advance to the second day of the regional.

The seven athletes helped Concordia finish the opening day of the regional with 59.5 team points which puts them in eighth place heading into Day 2. CC is only .50 of a point behind seventh place and 7.0 points out of the Top 5.

Bisek is the lone Concordia representative in the semifinals as he won both of his matches at 133. He started the day with a pin in the first period over Coleman Burgess of Lakeland. Bisek then went complete defensive mode to earn his win in the quarterfinals. Facing Sawyer Sarbacker of Wis.-La Crosse, neither wrestler scored a point in the first period. Bisek was then placed in the down position to start the second and third periods, and never allowed Sarbacker an escape – and won the match 1-0 on riding time.

The boring, but highly effective win, was Bisek's team-leading 27th of the season. He only needs to win his semifinal match to place in the Top 3 and punch his ticket to nationals. If he loses in the semifinals, he can still get to the NCAA Meet by winning two matches in the wrestlebacks.

Kellen Schauer, Tyler Bents, Bret Wilson, Ayden Friese, Gabe Zierden and Chase Dockter are the other six Cobbers who advanced to Saturday.

All six won their first match of the day, lost in the quarterfinals and then came back to record a victory in the second round of wrestlebacks.

UP NEXT: Concordia will finish off the Upper Midwest Regional on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 10 a.m. at Wis.-Eau Claire.
