Excitement Until The End Against No.4-ranked Augsburg

MOORHEAD, Minn. (02/12/22)---Concordia finished off its "regular season" by battling No.4-ranked Augsburg in the most exciting dual meet of the season.

The Cobbers and Auggies were tied at 12-12 after the first six individual matches before Augsburg showed its pedigree, ran off four unanswered wins and dealt Concordia a 29-12 loss.

The loss finishes Concordia's 2022 dual-meet record at 6-6. Of the six losses, all six came against DII or DIII Top 10 teams. The Cobbers are most likely the best .500 dual-meet team in all of Division III.

Augsburg finishes off its dual-meet season with a 4-2 record with both losses coming at the hands of the team that was ranked No.1 in DIII at the time.

Concordia and Augsburg traded wins for the first six matches.

The Cobbers fell behind 3-0, but then No.12-ranked Ty Bisek ground out a 4-2 decision at 133 to even the match at 133.

The win was Bisek's team-leading 25th of the season. He is now 25-4 in his first season of collegiate wrestling.

After dropping the next bout, junior Kellen Schauer provided the most electrifying moment of the dual when he was able to tilt his opponent's shoulder in the back half of the second period and came up with a crowd-raising pin at the 4:35 mark in his match at 149.

The bonus-point victory game the Cobbers a 9-7 lead and pumped up the CC bench.

Augsburg would retake the lead with a tech fall win at 157.

Senior Bret Wilson made his final moments on the mat inside Memorial Auditorium as he blanked his opponent en route to a 3-0 win at 165. Wilson with a 2-point near fall in the third period and then tacked on the bonus point for riding time.

The win is the third in four matches for Wilson over a wrestler from Augsburg.

Wilson's win tied the team score at 12-12 with four bouts to go, but the Auggies had three wrestlers ranked in the Top 11 of the nation to make the final path home an uphill trek.

The best match at the end of the dual came in the heavyweight bout where Chase Dockter went to the wire against the No.7-ranked wrestler in DIII. Dockter trailed 5-3 late and nearly pulled off the last-second takedown but got caught and lost 7-3.

UP NEXT: Concordia will have a 2-week period to train for the NCAA Regional Meet. The Cobbers will look to push wrestlers to the NCAA Championship Meet when they compete at the Upper Midwest Regional on Feb. 25-26 in Eau Claire, Wis.
