Cobbers Fall In Season Opener

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/15/24)---Concordia battled an up-and-coming Augsburg team in its season opener and lost 6-0 at the Moorhead Sports Center.
 
The Auggies, who recently tied No.1-ranked Wis.-River Falls, scored a single goal in the first, two in the second and then three in the third to come away with the victory in the MIAC opener for both squads.
 
The Cobbers' best period in the opener came in the second period when they were able to outshoot the Auggies 10-9. Both teams had a pair of power plays in the middle frame with Concordia being held scoreless while the Auggies scored one of their two goals in the 20 minutes of play on the power play. 
 
Concordia finished the game by going 0-for-3 with the player advantage. Augsburg had their only power play chances in the second period and went 1-for-2.
 
The Cobbers were outshot 32-13 for the game. Senior transfer goalie Ashlea Arvidson stopped 26 shots in her first appearance in maroon and gold. 
 
Lila Lanctot and Madilyn Skogman led the CC offense with two shots each. 
 
The same two teams will finish off the 2-game series on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. at the Moorhead Sports Center.
