Slow And Steady Wins The Race In The Series Opener

BLAINE, Minn. (02/12/22)---Concordia scored a single goal in each period, overcame a 2-1 deficit in the second period and rallied to beat Bethel 3-2.

Senior Brenna Mjoness' goal with 9:58 left to play in the third period proved to be the difference as Concordia picked up its first win in the last 10 games.

The Cobbers are now 7-12-1 in 2022 and have a 3-9-1 mark in the MIAC. The loss is only the second in the last four games for the Royals who fall to 6-9-1 overall and 4-5-1 in league play.

Concordia jumped on the board first when Jordie Egerdahl scored her second goal of the season at the 7:04 mark of the opening period. Jerica Friese earned one of her two assists on the afternoon. The point for Egerdahl gives her 11 for the season which is second most on CC and the most for any season in her college career.

Bethel tied the game with 7:23 left in the first period and then took their only lead of the game in the fifth minute of the second frame.

The game would stay at 2-1 in favor of BU until the final three minutes of the middle period. Freshman Lexi Woodward tied the game at 17:58 when she finished off a pass from Paige Hanson. For Woodward, it was her second goal of the season.

The only scoring in the final 20 minutes of play came courtesy of Mjoness after she was set up by Friese and McKenzie Oelkers. The goal was Mjoness' sixth of the year which is third most on the team. Her six goals in the season are a career high as is her eight total points.

The two assists for Friese brings her season point total to 20. She becomes the first 20-point scorer for the Cobbers since Amanda Fleming and Tori Davis eclipsed that mark in the 2018 season.

The Cobbers outshot the Royals 34-29 for the game. Neither team scored on the power play. CC was 0-for-5 with the extra skater, while Bethel went 0-for-3 on the PP.

Kiana Flaig made 27 saves to record her fifth win in goal for Concordia.
