Schaack Treatment

SUPERIOR, Wis. (12/12/15)—All season junior Amber Schaack has knocked on the door and rarely has anyone answered. That didn't stop Schaack from continuing to knock and on Saturday she was finally let in the house.

Schaack scored two goals and helped Concordia finish of the 2015 portion of its schedule by beating Wis.-Superior 4-1.

Schaack entered the game with an MIAC-best 51 shots on goal but was only tied for sixth on her team in goals scored with two. She doubled her season goal total against the Yellowjackets and recorded the game winner for good measure.

Schaack's outburst helped the Cobbers earn their seventh overall win before the break. Concordia has now won two straight, seven of its last nine and is 7-4 overall. Last year CC was 2-7 heading into the Christmas break. The seven wins before January marks the most in the first part of the season since the 2011-12 season.

While Schaack has been posting many shots without many goals, sophomore Tori Davis continued her hot scoring streak less than a minute into the opening period. Davis put the Cobbers up 1-0 at the 45-second mark when she netted her team-leading sixth goal of the year. Anna Westmark earned her fourth assist of the year on the game-opening tally.

Neither team was able to score for the final 19 minutes of the opening frame and then Concordia broke open the game with a pair of goals in the second period.

Schaack got the eventual game winner at the 9:42 mark and then defenseman Hannah Johnston scored her first goal of the season on the power play at 17:17 of the middle period.

The Jess tandem of Jess Nelson and Jessica Kongelf recorded the assists on the game winner and the pair duplicated their feat on Johnston's score.

Superior would get to within two goals by scoring in the opening minute of the third period but then Schaack restored the three-goal margin a little over three minutes later. She finished off the score line by picking up an unassisted goal at 4:48.

Concordia made the most of its shots in the game as they were outshot 33-19 for the three periods. Schaack had a team-high five shots on goal.

Junior goalie Andrea Klug turned aside 32 shots to pick up her seventh win of the season.

SUPER SCHAACK SHOT TAKER
Amber Schaack has now led Concordia in shots on goal in seven of the 11 games this year. Schaack has had at least four shots in all but one game as well. She has had at least five shots on seven occasions. Schaack is atop the conference shot chart with 56 shots on goal. That is six more than Chelsea Koehn from Hamline.

TORI TIME
Tori Davis has now scored at least one goal in three straight games and has four scores in the stretch. She has five goals in the last five games after only having one goal in the team's first six games. Her six goals is one more than she had in all of her freshman season last year.  Davis is now tied for second in goals scored in the MIAC this year.

KLUTCH KLUG
Andrea Klug continues to be allergic to giving up goals. The junior netminder posted her second straight game of not allowing more than a single goal and she has allowed fewer than two goals on six occasions this year.

Klug is currently in the top 15 of the nation in four different statistical categories. She is tied for second in shutouts, ninth in goals against average (.123), 10th in save percentage (95.2%) and 15th in winning percentage (.778).

WHAT'S NEXT
Concordia will start out the 2016 calendar year with four straight home games. The Cobbers will host Wis.-River Falls in a pair of non-conference games on Jan. 8-9 and then square off against Hamline on Jan. 15-16 in the return to conference play. River Falls is ranked eighth in the latest USCHO.xom national rankings, has won eight straight games and is 10-2 on the season. The Pipers have won five of their past seven games and are 5-4-2 overall and 3-2-1 in the MIAC.
