A Tough Night In St. Peter

ST. PETER, Minn. (1/25/13)—Concordia was unable to sustain any consistent offensive attack and lost 5-1 at No.2-ranked Gustavus. The Cobbers conceded the first five goals in the game and had their two-game winning streak come to an end.

The game swung completely in the Gusties' favor towards the end of the first period. After the team's battled through 14 minutes of scoreless hockey, Gustavus scored a pair of goals in a span of just 9-seconds to completely swing the momentum in favor of the home and they would never look back.

Gustavus (15-0-0/9-0-0) scored three times in the second period before the Cobbers were able to notch the only goal of the final frame.

Concordia's lone goal of the game came at 13:49 of the third period when Madison Gendreau scored her sixth goal of the season. Gendreau has now scored at least one goal in three straight games and has points in four consecutive games and five of the last seven. Genreau's goal came while CC was killing off a power play. It was their second shorthanded goal of the season.

The Gusties held a substantial 53-9 edge in shots on goal. The Cobbers had six of their nine shots in the third period alone.

Concordia (6-6-3/5-3-1 MIAC) used two goalies in the game. Madison Denny started the game and played the first 38:08. She stopped 32 of the 37 shots she faced. Rebecca Hendrickson finished off the final 21:52 and stopped all 16 shots that came her way. Gustavus goalie Lindsey Hubbard made eight saves to earn her eighth win of the year.

The two teams will finish off their two-game series on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 2 p.m.
