Three Unanswered Tallies Topple Cobbers

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/3/12)-- Concordia gave up three unanswered goals and lost to St. Kate's 4-3 in Moorhead on Friday. The Cobbers took a 3-1 lead midway through the first period but then watched the Wildcats tie the game with a pair of goals in the second period and then score the game-winner with under 5:00 to play in the third period.

Concordia is now 9-4-3 in overall games this season and are 5-3-3 in the MIAC. St. Kate's improves to 8-7-2 and 4-5-2 in league games.

The Cobbers gave up the first goal of the game at the 4:16 mark mark of the first period but then responded by scoring three goals in a span of 3:38 midway through the opener. Breann Julius tied the game at 7:15 with her team-leading 14th goal of the game and then Madison Gendreau put CC up 2-1 at the 8:26 mark before Abby Taffe finished off the trio of goals with a shorthanded score at 10:53.

St. Kate's regrouped after the first period and then started to up their tempo of play in the second. The Wildcats got another early goal to cut the lead to 3-2 at the 3:15 mark. They tied the game with exactly 2:00 to play in the period and then won the game with a goal at 15:37 of the final frame. 

Concordia outshot St. Kate's 36-16 for the game. Cobber goalie Desiree Goret made 12 saves in the game while Wildcat netminder Samantha Geissler stopped 33 shots to earn the win.

The Cobbers were 0-for-2 on the power play while the Wildcats scored once in their four man-advatage situations.

The two teams will complete their two-game series on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. at the Moorhead Sports Center.
