Cobbers Have All The Answers In Fourth Straight Win

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/18/23)---The Cobbers led for the final three quarters in their conference match-up with Augsburg, survived a third-quarter run by the Auggies and pulled away for a 63-49 win.

The victory is the fourth straight for the Cobbers and eighth in the last nine games.

The win is also the 12th of the year for Concordia who moves to 12-3 on the season. The 12 wins are the most by a Cobber team since the 2015-16 campaign. CC is now 9-3 in league play which keeps them locked in sole possession of third place in the MIAC standings.

Concordia gave up the first three points in the game, but then scored the next seven points in the first quarter and never trailed after that point.

The Cobbers stretched the lead to double-digits early in the second quarter, and kept the Auggies at arm's length until Augsbirg went on a 10-0 streak to start the third frame which cut the lead to one point at 33-32.

Greta Tollefson then came up with two huge offensive rebounds on the next trip down the court, and subsequently made a pair of free throws to give CC breathing room and stop the Auggie momentum.

Augsburg (9-6, 6-6 MIAC) made one more run at the start of the fourth quarter, where they cut the lead to four points on four different occasions, but Concordia finished the game by scoring the final 10 points to seal the victory.

Concordia's defense limited Augsburg to 30.5% (18-for-59) shooting from the floor and 25.0% (5-for-20) from outside the arc.

The 49 points allowed by the Cobbers are the third fewest of the season. CC's defense also kept St. Scholastica (48) and Salve Regina (42) to under 50 points.

MIAC Offensive Player of the Week Emily Beseman led all players with 16 points. She also grabbed nine rebounds and dished out a season-high six assists.
