Rare Sunday Game Ends With A Usual 2022 Home Result

MOORHEAD, Minn. (01/23/22)---It may have been a rare Sunday morning game for Concordia, but it was business as usual at home in 2022 for the Cobbers.

Concordia scored at least 17 points in all four quarters and cruised to a 78-68 home win over Carleton. The Cobbers remain unbeaten inside Memorial Auditorium for the 2022 calendar year. CC has won four straight home games – and four of their last five overall games. The Cobbers are now 5-8 in all games and 5-6 in conference play.

The Cobbers started the game on fire by scoring the first seven points in the opening quarter and rolling to a 12-4 lead. The Knights tied the game at the end of the first by going on a 7-2 run in the final 118-seconds of the period.

Concordia proceeded to outscore Carleton 17-12 in the second quarter to take a 5-point halftime lead and then rattled off 21 points in each of the third and fourth frames, bettered Carleton by five points in the second half to claim the 10-point victory.

The difference in the game came from outside the arc where the Cobbers knocked down eight shots from distance as opposed to only four for Carleton. CC went 8-for-18 (44.4%), while the Knights were 4-for-16 (25.0%).

Both teams were 16-for-21 from the foul line. Concordia shot 49.1% (27-for-55) from the floor and grabbed 28 rebounds. Carleton shot 44.4% (24-for-54) from the field and hauled down 26 boards.

Cobber sophomore Jordyn Kahler sparked the second-half surge for Concordia. She scored 13 of her team-high 17 points in the third and fourth quarters and went 4-for-6 from 3-point range during that stretch.

Like Kahler, Beseman did most of her scoring in the final 20 minutes of play. She opened with six points in the first half and then scored 10 in the second half to finish with 16 points. Beseman also added five rebounds and four assists to her stat line.

Mary Sem posted a double-digit scoring total for the seventh time in the last nine games. She went 5-for-11 from the floor, 5-for-6 from the foul line and finished with 15 points.

Freshman Makayla Anderson came off the bench to haul down a team-high six rebounds. She has led the Cobbers in rebounding in four of the past seven games and leads CC with a 5.3 rpg average.

UP NEXT: Concordia will look to take their Memorial momentum on the road when they face Macalester in St. Paul on Wednesday, Jan. 26 at 5:15 p.m. The Scots are 6-7 in conference play and directly ahead of the Cobbers in the league standings.
