Caught In The Fourth Quarter In The Season Opener

MORRIS, Minn. (11/05/21)---Concordia led after the first quarter. The Cobbers led at halftime, and then again after three quarters of play. Unfortunately, CC was caught at the start of the fourth quarter and lost 60-55 at Minn.-Morris in the season opener for both teams.

The final period of play featured seven lead changes as the two teams battled until the 1:13. The Cobbers led 54-53 after a made layup from junior Emily Beseman, but then the Cougars went on a 7-1 run down the stretch to earn the 5-point win. Concordia went 0-for-4 from 3-point range in the final minute of play.

The Cobbers quarter highwater mark came in the third period when they scored 17 points. That total equaled Morris' output and kept their 5-point halftime lead intact. CC was then outscored 20-10 in the final 10 minutes of play.

Senior guard Autumn Thompson had a game-high 21 points and added four rebounds and three assists. Mary Sem posted nine points and Beseman scored eight to give Concordia a trio of player with at least eight points in the game. Beseman also had a game-high five assists.

Freshman Makayla Anderson and sophomore Jordyn Kahler combined for 21 of the team's 47 rebounds. Anderson came down with a game-high 13 boards in her first collegiate game. Kahler had eight boards and five points.  

Concordia shot 31.0% (22-for-71) from the field and 25.9% (7-for-27) from 3-point range for the game. Morris shot 41.1% (23-for-56) from the floor and 30.8% (4-for-13) from outside the arc.

The Cobbers held a 47-44 edge on the glass and a 16-12 edge in second chance shots, while the Cougars outscored CC 28-22 in points in the paint.
