Butler Center Love
ST. PAUL, Minn. (2/04/15)—Concordia shooters love the Butler Center. For the third straight season the Cobbers shot better than 42.0% from outside the arc on their way to an 84-59 win over St. Catherine.
The Cobbers once again warmed to the friendly shooting confines of Butler Center as they shot 42.3% (11-for-26) from 3-point range. The 11 made 3-pointers is the most in conference play this year and most since the second game of the season against Mayville State (13). The last time that CC had at least 11 3-pointers against an MIAC team was last year at St. Catherine when they were 12-for-28 in an 87-68 win at Butler Center. In the past three seasons the Cobbers are32-for-74 (43.2%) from long range at the Butler Center.
The win on Wednesday pushes Concordia into a three-way tie for third place in the MIAC standings. The Cobbers are now 8-5 in league play and 12-8 overall. CC is tied with St. Mary's for the No.3 spot in league play and will play the Cardinals on Saturday and then host the Gusties on Wednesday.
Concordia trailed for the majority of the first half until the Cobbers remembered their past history at St. Catherine. The Wildcats scored the first six points of the game and continued to lead until the six minutes of the opening period. CC 's decisive run came after St. Catherine had a four-point lead at 24-20 lead with 7:35 to play.
Concordia proceeded to rattled 18 of the final 19 points in the first half and went into the break with a 13-point cushion at 38-25. In that 18-1 run the Cobbers went 7-for-12 (58.3%) from the floor and made a pair of long-range shots.
Concordia then finished off the game by producing an 18-4 run that started with a Greta Walsh 3-pointer at the 16:19 mark and ended with a pair of free throws from senior Erin Januschka at 10:48.
Cobber senior guard Alley Fisher regained her outside shooting touch and came away with a game-high 21 points after going 4-for-8 from behind the arc. Her 21 points vaulted her up into the top 15 on the school's all-time scoring list. Fisher now has 1,139 career points and is 15th on the scoring chart. She passed last year's teammate Alexandra Lippert who finished her storied career with 1,133 points.
Fisher's four 3-pointers also move her up the Cobber 3-point list. She is now second on the school's all-time sheet with 165 made shots from behind the arc. She needs 10 more to break the school record of 174 set by Annie Keeley from 2003-07.
