No Unanswered Questions

ST. PAUL, Minn. (12/06/14)—Hamline had all the answers when Concordia pushed into the Piper lead in the second half and the Cobbers lost 69-61.

Concordia was never able to take the lead after cutting the Piper margin to four points late in the first half and lost for the first time in conference play. The Cobbers are now 1-1 in the MIAC and 4-3 overall. Hamline has an identical 4-3/1-1 MIAC mark.

It was a case of cold shooting from the outside that hurt the Cobbers' comeback chances. Concordia shot only 14.3% (1-for-7) from 3-point range in the first half and 22.2% (4-for-18) in the final period.

Concordia pulled to within six points with 14:10 to play but then a 9-2 run by the Pipers pushed the lead to 13 points and CC never got to within eight points for the remainder of the game.

The Cobbers finished with a 35.8% (19-for-53) shooting percentage from the floor and hit on 22.2% (4-for-18) from 3-point range for the game. The lone bright spot as far as shooting goes came at the free throw line where CC was 19-for-26 (73.1%).

The teams were almost deadlocked in rebounds and turnovers. Concordia came away with one less rebound at 35-34 while the Pipers committed one more turnover at 20-19. Both teams were also whistled for 21 fouls each.  

The Cobbers had only two players with more than nine points in the game. Sophomore guard Greta Walsh had a team-high 12 points while Alley Fisher posted 10 points. Walsh scored all 12 of her points in the second half and Fisher scored six of her 10 points in the first half.

Olivia Johnson collected a game-high nine rebounds to go along with six points. Emma Peterson finished with nine points, six rebounds and three steals.   

Concordia will now host a pair of non-conference games. The Cobbers will square off against St. Scholastica on Monday, Dec. 8 at 5:30 and then face Valley City State on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m.
