Walsh Kick Starts Another Second-Half Comeback

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/10/14)Greta Walsh made the first field goal of each half for Concordia, racked up a career-high 21 points and helped the Cobbers stage another second-half comeback en route to an 84-60 win over Carleton.

Concordia trailed 36-33 at the half but then outscored the Knights 51-24 in the final 20 minutes of play to post their fourth straight win and 12th in the last 13 games. The Cobbers are now 18-4 overall and 16-3 in the MIAC. CC remains one game behind St. Mary's and St. Thomas for the top spot in the league standings.

Walsh was the catalyst behind another Cobber second-half comeback. She scored on a pair of acrobatic up-and-under layups to start the second half and her second effort gave Concordia a 37-36 lead – a lead they would never relinquish. The Cobbers have now overcome a halftime deficit to post a victory in six of their past 12 games.

The Cobbers weren't able to stop Carleton's outside game in the first half. The Knights went 6-for-12 from outside the arc in the first half. That, coupled with Concordia's inability to knock down open 3-point attempts on the other end, led to a three-point lead for the Knights at the break. The Cobbers were 5-for-15 from 3-point range in the opening 20 minutes.

Concordia turned up the pressure defensively in the second period and made a concerted effort to get the ball inside and score from around the basket. The Cobbers shot 64.5% (20-for-31) from the floor in the second half and at one point scored on eight straight trips down the court.

Walsh was one of 13 Cobber players to score in the game. She was 8-for-16 from the floor. Senior center Alexandra Lippert had a game-high 12 rebounds and added 10 points to collect her fourth double-double of the season. Alley Fisher was 5-for-7 from the floor, 3-for-7 from outside the arc and finished with 14 points. She has now scored in double figures in 14 games this year and Concordia has recorded a win in every single one of those contests.

Concordia will continue with its final three-game home stand when they host St. Thomas on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 1 p.m. The game will go a long way in determining who gets a bye in the first round of the upcoming MIAC playoffs.
