Second-Half Success Keys Win Over St. Ben's

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. (1/21/12)—Tricia Sorensen scored 20 points for the second consecutive game in Concordia's 66-52 win over St. Ben's on Saturday. Sorensen also grabbed 11 rebounds to record her third double-double of the season in the Cobbers' fourth win in the past six games.

Concordia trailed 30-29 at the half but then went on a 13-2 run to start the second half and won by 14. The Cobbers only trailed for 1:22 of the final half before center Alex Lippert hit a pair of jumpers to put CC up for good. Concordia put the game away in the second half by shooting 59.1% (13-for-22) from the floor and 83.3% (5-for-6) from outside the arc. The Cobber defense also held the Blazers to just six field goals in the final 20 minutes of play.

The win is the third straight for Concordia over St. Ben's. The Cobbers are now 10-6 on the season and 8-5 in the MIAC. The Cobbers are in a three-way tie for fourth place in the league standings. The Blazers lose for the fourth time in the last five games and drop to 8-8 overall and 5-8 in the MIAC.

Sorensen was 8-for-12 from the floor and 3-for-3 from 3-point range in leading CC to the win. Lippert and Emily Thesing added 13 points each while Mary-Michael Vance chipped in nine points – all in the second half. Thesing had a game-high six assists and Lippert added four blocks.

Concordia outrebounded St. Ben's 37-24 in the game and enjoyed a 24-12 edge in points in the paint.

The Cobbers will host St. Kate's in a midweek conference game on Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 7:30 p.m.
