Ice Cold Against The Auggies

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (12/03/11)—Concordia shot just 28.8% (17-for-59) from the field and 21.7% (5-for-23) from 3-point range and lost 62-41 at Augsburg on Saturday. It is only the third time that the Cobbers have lost to the Auggies in the 60-game series between the two teams.

Concordia never led in the game as they lost for the first time in conference play. CC is now 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the league. Augsburg remains unbeaten on the year and moves to 3-0 in all games and 2-0 in the MIAC.

The swing segment of the game came wrapped around the halftime break. Concordia cut the Auggie lead to just four points with 3:16 to play in the first half but then Augsburg went on a 13-2 run over a span of 4:41 to take a 15-point lead at 35-20 at the 18:35 mark of the second half.  The Cobbers were never able to cut the lead to single digits for the remainder of the game and lost by 21 points.

Concordia had the roles reversed against the Auggies. CC had owned the area around the basket in their first four games of the year but was outscored 30-18 in points in the paint against Augsburg.  The Cobbers' center trio accounted for only six points in the game and had seven rebounds.

Tricia Sorensen led CC with 16 points. She was the only Cobber player with more than three made field goals on the day. Emily Thesing had nine points and collected a team-high 10 rebounds.

Augsburg shot 46.0% (23-for-50) from the field and 36.4% (4-for-11) from outside the arc. The Auggies had four players in double figures in points and were led by guard Serenae Levine who was one assist shy of a triple-double. She finished with 12 points, 13 rebounds and nine dimes.

The Cobbers will stay on the road and play at St. Kate's on Monday, Dec. 5 at 6 p.m.
