Vah Squared = Win Streak Squared

WINONA, Minn. (10/02/21)---It's simple math for Concordia this season – when junior forward Telvin Vah scores two goals, the Cobbers are 3-0.

Vah had his second straight 2-goal game and helped Concordia to a 2-0 win over St. Mary's in Winona. Vah scored a goal in each half as the Cobbers won for the second straight game.

The 2-game win streak is the second of the season for CC and ups their overall record to 4-7-0 on the year. Concordia is 2-3-0 in the MIAC and currently in a tie for sixth place in the league standings. The victory over the Cardinals marks the first league win for the Cobbers in Winona since 2010.

Not only did Vah match his season-high goal total, but he posted a season-high shot mark as well. Vah led the Concordia offense with nine total shots and seven on goal.

Vah's offensive output was matched by senior Nate Weaver who had five shots in the game as the two combined for 14 of the team's 23 total shots.

Vah's first goal was recorded in the 23rd minute of play and came from a nothing play in the middle of the field. The ball was bouncing around at the bottom of the center circle when it was played out to Vah on the right wing. He was able to control the ball and get inside the SMU penalty area. He then fired a shot from 15 yards out on the right side of the area that went through the goalie's hands and trickled into the net.

Concordia heled the better of the offensive play in the first half, outshooting the Cardinals 12-3 in total shots and 6-2 in shots on frame.

The eventual insurance goal didn't come until the final 10 minutes of play. Freshman midfielder Kai Black won the ball 40 yards out from goal and slid a pass to Vah who dribbled into the area, went wide of the defense and then slid a sharp-angle shot inside the near post for the dagger goal.

The strike at 80:37 was Vah's eighth of the season. He now leads the MIAC in goals this year. It was also his 20th point of the year which is also tops in the conference.

Junior goalie Erick Torres was called on to make six saves as he picked up his first shutout in goal for the Cobbers.

UP NEXT: Concordia will have a whole week to recover from the trip to Winona. The Cobbers will host Gustavus on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 12:30 p.m. The Gusties are in a tie for third place in the conference standings.  They are 8-3-0 overall and 3-1-0 in league play.
