MSC Offensive Magic Doesn't Carry On The Road

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (11/19/21)---Concordia couldn't replicate their Moorhead Sports Center offensive magic and lost 2-1 in overtime at St. Olaf in their first road game of the season.

The Cobbers scored midway through the first period, but couldn't come up with a second goal and had their 3-game win streak come to an end.

Concordia is now 4-3-1 on the year in all games and 2-1-0 in the MIAC. The Oles win for the second straight game and are now 3-3-1 overall and 2-1-0 in conference play.

The Cobbers looked like they would continue with their high-scoring ways at the start of the opening period of play. CC entered the game having scored 20 goals in its last three games and put up the first two shots of the game in the first 90 seconds.

Concordia held a 3-1 edge in shots when senior defenseman Alex Stoley scored the opening goal of the game at the 11:10 mark of the first period.  Keaton Leininger was awarded the assist on Stoley's third goal of the year and third in the last three games.

Unfortunately for the Cobbers, the offense would slowly wind down throughout the game. CC put up 10 shots on goal in the first period and then 14 in the final 40 minutes of play.

St. Olaf never had more than seven shots on goal in any period, but got the game-tying goal on the power play at 10:49 of the second period.

Concordia opened the overtime with two quick shots but then the Oles won it with a goal at the 1:31 mark.

The power play proved to be a big difference maker in the game. The Cobbers were held scoreless in seven power play chances for the game. St. Olaf was 1-for-4 with the man advantage.

Concordia finished the game by outshooting St. Olaf 26-19. Stoley, Hunter Olson, Jacen Bracko and Cole O'Connell all had three shots on goal to lead CC.

Senior goalie Jackson Nelson stopped 17 shots and suffered his first defeat of the season.
