Six-Goal Success To End 2016

MOORHEAD, Minn. (12/09/16)---Concordia scored early and often, got fantastic goaltending from Jacob Stephen and capitalized on two-goal games from Dalton Mills and Jon Grebosky to roll past Wisc.-Stout 6-1.

Mills scored two goals and added two assists as 10 different Cobbers tallied a point in Concordia's best offensive game of the season. Concordia wins its third straight game and moves to 7-4-0 on the year while Stout has its one-game win streak come to an end and falls to 5-6-0.

Grebosky opened the scoring with a beautiful power play goal at 3:35 of the first period. Grebosky carried the puck through the neutral zone and passed it to teammate Mario Bianchi who then played the puck back to Grebosky as he crashed the crease. Grebosky merely needed to tap the puck into the open net to record his third goal of the season. Bianchi and Eddie Eades recorded the assists on the opening goal of the game.

After getting outshot 8-4 in the first period, Concordia found its offensive firepower and took over in the second power. The Cobbers would outshoot the Blue Devils 23-13 in the final two periods.

Mills caught fire for the Cobbers in the three-goal second period. He scored on a breakaway at 4:25 to give Concordia a 2-0 lead. Tanner Okeson fed Mills the puck to start the breakaway past the Stout defense. Just over two minutes later, Mills sniped a shot into the top right corner as he was streaking down the left wing. The puck cleared the outstretched glove of the Stout goaltender. Jordan Christianson got the only assist on the goal.

Christianson and Mills would also combine on CC's fifth goal late in the period. This time it was Mills who fed a wide open Christianson on the door step and he slammed a shot into a virtually empty net.

Concordia bagged two more insurance markers in the third. Grebosky scored his second power play goal of the game at 4:04 of the third period. Bianchi and Mills assisted on the goal for their second and fourth points of the night. The two-goal night for Grebosky was his first since January 16 of last season when he scored two in a 7-3 win at Hamline.

The final Cobber goal of the night belonged to Zach Doerring. Like four other Concordia goals, Doerring needed to only tap the puck home from the back post after a nice passing play set up the score. Grebosky and Garrett Hendrickson set up Doerring's fifth goal of the year at the 17:11 mark.

While the offense was clicking all throughout the lineup, Stephen shined between the pipes as he submitted another great game in a line of recent Cobber goaltending performances. Stephen stopped 20 of the 21 shots he faced and gave up the only Stout goal of the game in the final minute of the third period.

Concordia outshot the Blue Devils 27-21 for the 60 minutes. Mills had a game-high five shots while Jake Stilwell added four and Grebosky had three.

THE A-TEAM: Concordia's top line of Jon Grebosky, Zach Doerring and Garrett Hendrickson tallied three goals and five points in the game. Two power play goals from Grebosky and one from Doerring led the No.1 unit. Grebosky has now scored three goals over his past two games.

GOT MILLS?: Junior Dalton Mills was the most productive player on the ice on Friday. He racked up four points — including two goals — for the first time in his Concordia career. After starting the season one of the top two lines, Mills played on the third line tonight and found great chemistry with Joe Burgmeier and Jordan Christianson. The line tallied seven points on the night. Mills leads Concordia with seven goals on the season.

GAME WINNERS GALORE: Dalton Mills scored the second goal for the Cobbers on Friday which proved to be the game-winning goal. It was Mills' third game winner of the year which is tied for tops in the MIAC.
