Eric Cockhill Named MIAC Player Of The Week

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/21/24)---Concordia junior wide receiver Eric Cockhill (Helena, Mont./Capital HS) was named the MIAC Special Teams Player of the Week for his outstanding kick and punt returns in the Cobbers' win at Hamline.

He becomes the third Cobber player to earn MIAC Player of the Week honors this season. Jaiden Musse was named the Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 9 and Damien Silus earned Special Teams Player of the Week honors on Oct. 7.

Cockhill set the tone for Concordia's 34-point win by returning the opening kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown. The return is the longest of the year in the MIAC and the only kickoff returned for a touchdown in conference play. The 92-yard return is one of the longest in Cobber program history and it's the first return for a TD since the 2021 season when Andy Gravdahl went 88 yards against Presentation on Sept. 11.

Not only did Cockhill announce his presence on kick returns, he also flipped the field position in Concordia's favor with his stellar punt returns. Cockhill returned six punts and averaged 13.7 yards per return. His longest return of the day was 20 yards which set up the Cobbers' final TD of the game.

Cockhill leads the MIAC in kick returns and is third in punt return average this season. He is averaging 31.1 yards for his nine kick returns and 9.5 yards per punt return.
