Mortenson Named MIAC Offensive Player Of The Week

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/10/22)---Concordia senior running back Peyton Mortenson (Marietta, Minn./Lac qui Parle Valley HS) was named the MIAC Offensive Player of the Week for his milestone performance in the Cobbers' 36-7 Homecoming win over Macalester.

Mortenson earns the conference weekly honor for the first time in his career, and he becomes the first Cobber to garner the award this year.

Mortenson rushed for a season-high 166 yards in Concordia's first division game of the year. He also scored three touchdowns as he helped the Cobbers score 29 unanswered points against the Scots.

Mortenson carried the ball 29 times and averaged 5.7 yards per carry on Saturday. He also touched the ball on 40-percent of the Cobbers' offensive plays. All three of those numbers are season bests for the running back.

The biggest accomplishment for Mortenson in the game came in the second quarter when he became the 27th player in program history to reach the 1,000-yard rushing mark. His 6-yard run in the second quarter pushed him over the century, and he now has 1,142 career rushing yards.

Mortenson had 450 rushing yards on 113 carries this season and has scored seven touchdowns. He is currently third in the MIAC in rushing yards and is tied for the league lead in scoring.
